The pantry, a long serving ancillary to the kitchen.  Often a separate room, with its main function being to store food.  For the longest time people have always found ways to preserve food: natural cooling and freezing, drying, curing, smoking, pickling, fermenting, and preserving in honey.  These methods of storing food for longer, filled pantries over the centuries as well as common staples from grains to canned goods.  Pantry based goods often sourced in the corner shop, general grocer or even the homemakers with their jams and pickle jars, ensured the basic food items for a meal were catered for even in times where fresh foods may have been scarce.
